The Cyclones have put three of their five wrestlers into tomorrow’s quarterfinals of the Southern Scuffle. Earl Hall (133) will have George DiCamillo of Virginia, Gabe Moreno (149) will face Edgar Bright of Pitt, and Tanner Weatherman (174) will see John Eblen of Missouri. All three appear to be very good matches on paper. For instance DiCamillo got the better of Hall (9-2 in Las Vegas) last time they met so it will be interesting to see how Hall responds this time they meet.
On the backside Iowa State lost a couple wrestlers: John Meeks (141), Blayne Briceno (149), Luke Goettl (157), and Jon Scanlan (285) all fell ending their tournament a little earlier than fans would have liked to see.
The Cyclones did however get a pair of consolation wins from Kyle Larson (125) and Marcus Harrington (197) to stay alive in their hopes to finish on the stand.
Missouri was unable to get both Iowa prep wrestlers Mikey England (165) and Willie Miklus (184) into the quarterfinals. England dropped a tough match losing by fall to true freshman Chance Marstellar. Miklus on the other hand was able to notch a fall of his own to move on to face Nolan Boyd of Oklahoma State tomorrow morning.
Action for Session III (Quarterfinals) will start up at 8:00 AM tomorrow, and you can follow along as we tweet the results on Twitter (@IAWrestle)
