Just a friendly reminder that this weekend former Hawkeye Brent Metcalf and Franklin Gomez will highlight the Flo Premier League 3 event and former Cyclone Jon Reader will be taking on Jake Herbert.

In order to watch this event you will need FloPro (the premium streaming service of Flowrestling. Prices are $150/year or $20/month). The event will start at 7:00 PM CT this Saturday so hopefully you find someway to tune in. (Another note, UNI will be also featured on Flo this Sunday at the Grapple at the Garden. We don’t get any kick-backs from Flo, but perhaps knowing that with just a one month subscription, you can catch these Iowa related events: FPL3, UNI at the Grapple at the Garden, and ISU at the Southern Scuffle.)

Flowrestling’s attempt to build a professional wrestling league will continue this month as for the third event it was announced that former Hawkeye NCAA champion Brent Metcalf and former Cyclone NCAA champion Jon Reader will both serve as the co-main bouts on December 20th. Metcalf, who is Team USA’s world representative for the 65 KG weight class will face off against Franklin Gomez, who represents Puerto Rico at 65 KG.This is will be the first meeting between the pair, as Gomez wrestled several weight classes under Metcalf when the two were in college, and they have yet to face each other since joining the international scene. Gomez, who wrestled at Michigan State, was the 2011 World silver medalist at 60 KG. Metcalf and Gomez will compete at 150 pounds for this event.

Jon Reader will also have a stiff test as he will go up against Jake Hebert, the 2012 Olympian. Herbert retired after his the London Olympics, but recently decided to get back in the game and make another run at an Olympic cycle. Reader had been training exclusively while at his alma mater Iowa State for the 86 KG weight class, but took a job at South Dakota State earlier this year. Reader and Herbert will wrestle at 190 pounds.

Another fun little connection for Jon Reader and Brent Metcalf is that both wrestlers are former high school teammates from Davidson, Michigan.

The undercard also features a couple of wrestlers with some Iowa connections. First up is Angel Escobedo, who is now a volunteer coach for Iowa State University. Escobedo had previously been training for the 57 KG spot for team USA, but since his move to Ames he has entered the coaching side in addition to his training. Escobedo will weigh in at 135 pounds and face Conor Beebe.

The final Iowa connected wrestler is Max Askren who will face Jordan Blanton at 190 pounds. Askren and his brother Ben (who is the FPL commissioner) were born and have very early roots in Iowa before they moved and left the state.
