Last week at Media day we were able to catch an interview with Brandon Sorensen in the Dan Gable Wrestling Complex. Sorensen is one of the contenders for the 149 (or 157) spot in the Iowa Hawkeye’s lineup. Below is the video, and I have also transcribed as best as possible:
Q: Last season were you ready to be a factor coming of Midlands?
BS: Yeah, after coming off Midlands it wasn’t what I wanted, but I was still feeling strong and thought I could do good things. I was ready.
Q: How do you feel this year, now that you know you have a chance this season?
BS: Good, I am still building everyday, but I am feeling good so far. Good things will happen this year.
Q: What are some keys for you, what did you take out of last year?
BS: A lot of growth, it’s a big difference from high school. A lot of technical things. Work on this and this. Really you just have to put the time in and just build.
Q: Do you think in your mind is it your spot at 149 or 157, where ever you want to go?
BS: Yeah, in my mind where ever it’s where ever want to go. I have a goal to be the champ at NCAAs and where ever I fall in the lineup, which I am feeling 149, I am going to pursue that goal.
Q: What is one of the things you have learned from your true freshman season?
BS: You don’t have the puds that you do in high school so you always have to come out strong, and warm up. That’s a big key that I learned.
Q: Talk about the battle at 149.
BS: Yeah, it’s going to be a battle, I can’t ever put that behind me, but I’m gunning for the spot.
Q: How much did your redshirt year motivate you to capture that spot?
BS: It helped a lot. Seeing the guys wrestle and you know I wanted to be there. I wanted to be out on the mat at Carver Hawkeye Arena and watching those guys it really motivated me.
