Tonight Iowa added a pair of wrestlers from Illinois, the first being Vincent Turk of Montini, and the second being Joey Gunther of Libertyville.
Turk, who is an Illinois state champion is coming off a pair of great preseason tournaments these past few weekends. Already ranked #11 at 138 by Flowrestling and projects to wrestle 141 in college. Turk took home top honors at the Conflict at Carver tournament, being named the Outstanding Wrestler after he won his title. This past weekend at preseason nationals, Turk took home 3rd place honors, after losing to Cedar Fall’s Danny Kelly. Turk did pick up a win over Missouri commit Jaydin Clayton (consensus top 100 recruit) in the third place match at preseason nationals.
And now our own Tony Hager sent out this tweet signaling the second commit of the night:
Joe Gunther has committed to the Iowa #Hawkeyes. Ranked 7th by WIN magazine from Libertyville, Illinois

Joe "@JG5797" Gunther committed to Iowa over Minnesota, Illinois, UNI, Central Michigan and Northern Colorado. Projected 165 #Hawkeyes

Gunther is ranked #7 at 152 by WIN magazine, and will add to Iowa’s middle weight depth. Gunther has taken one of the nations top juniors Manville to the wire a few years ago and below is a match between him and Loving (OK). Loving recently finished 2nd at preseason nationals, which included a win over Dayton Racer, so it should be considered a quality win.
