Well, this isn’t exactly breaking news, but earlier this month Virginia Tech’s 125 pounder Joey Dance tweeted this little nugget:
The relevance this has on Iowa is the fact that UNI’s Dylan Peters, and Iowa State’s Kyle Larson will both face the sophomore in a dual at some point this season. Dylan Peters, who would face Dance on January 16th, is the fifth highest returning All-American at this weight from last season. Joey Dance is the fourth highest returning All-American for last season. This is certainly going to be one of Peters toughest matches on the upcoming season, so Panther fans that would like to get to know this VT Hookie a little better can tune into the All-Star dual and do some scouting. If this match is anything like the 8-10 (Dance victory) match we got to see at Nationals last year, we are going to be in for a great match!
Dance would then face Iowa State just two days after wrestling Peters, and by all indications Larson will be the man for the Cyclones. Since the Big 12 will not be qualifying any wrestlers from their conference tournament (for more explanation check out our Cross Face Episode one. After the first 5 weights, I discuss a little more in detail about Big 12 qualifying. In short, if a member of the Big 12 wants to make the NCAAs he will need the quality wins to get in. Winning the Big 12 itself won’t get it done.) this would be a huge opportunity for Larson to score an upset to further increase his chances of wrestling in late March.
– Some other house keeping items: You can catch Tony Hager on Takedown Radio this morning. If you can’t get in on the 1460 AM dial, you can use iHeartRADIO link or use the iHeartRADIO app on your phone to listen in.
