Big news coming out of Ames as the Cyclone Wrestling Club had a wrestler competing at the Pan Ams and they also announced a new Director of Operations.
Cyclone Wrestling Club member Deron Winn competed down in Mexico City, Mexico for the Pan Am Championships competing at 97 KG with action getting underway at 10 AM CT. In his first match against Cuba’s Javier Cortina, he fell 11-0. It was obviously pretty one sided, but Winn’s undoing was when he fell apart in the second period. The good news is that Winn will still have a shot at redemption tonight.
In the bronze medal match he will face off against Ali Al-Rekabi of Canada. The Open Mat is carrying a live stream of the event, and finals get underway tonight at 6 PM.
The other news came from Garett Kiley, as he announced on Twitter that he would be coming home to Iowa to join the Cyclone Wrestling Club as the Director of Operations.
Excited to announce I'm heading 2 Ames to work w/ @CycloneWR & have accepted @CWC4ISU Director of Operations position! #ALLIN @BrittKiley12

Here is a little bit more on Kiley:
As a prep, Kiley was a state medalist for perennial title contender Eagle Grove High School in Iowa. After graduating in 2004, he went to Simpson College (Indianola, Iowa) where he was a team captain and Iowa Conference medalist. After graduating from Simpson with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education in 2008, Kiley began his coaching career as the volunteer strength coach for the University Nebraska wrestling team where he assisted in strength and conditioning workouts, served as a training partner for Husker wrestlers, coached and counseled for Husker summer camps and led Nebraska Extreme club practices.
There is no doubt in my mind that Kiley will make a great addition to the Cyclone Wrestling Club, and we wish him all the best!
