Iowa has done pretty well for itself so far as Panther’s Doug Schwab was the voters champion in the head coach category, Troy Nickerson (former ISU assistant) and Garret Kiley faring pretty well in the Assistant coach category. Iowa has now placed two wrestlers in the athlete division, in Grand View heavyweight Eric Thompson and World Team member Tony Ramos. Thompson drew a pigtail with Nebraska’s James Green (and we can’t let Nebraska win anything!) while Ramos is the #3 seed and will wait to face Nestor Taffur in tomorrows vote. Voting starts to today, so go vote HERE and let’s get Thompson on to the quarterfinals!

The SMOY athlete category is designed to honor individuals who have done the best job building their personal/program brand throughout the season on social media.  The athletes included in the Battle Round bracket graphic were identified as finalists.  They will compete for the title of “Voter’s Champ” and 20% of criteria (10% to vote & 10% to campaign during vote) for determining the overall SMOY winner will come from Battle Round competition.

Of course, I couldn’t end this post without some mention of their Twitter handles (this award is for the athlete’s presence on the social media after all). Tony Ramos is @T_Ram133 and Eric Thompson is @GoldBearUSA. Remember to vote Thompson today, and come back tomorrow to vote on Ramos (and hopefully Thompson as well).
