Iowa had a great showing out in Ohio this weekend as four Iowa preps were able to pick up Cadet National titles. Highland-Riverside’s Drew West, Lisbon’s Carter Happel, and Southeast-Polk’s Ethan Andersen and Jake Marnin all claimed titles.

FILA Cadets-50 KG – Drew West 6th/1st.

Drew had a terrific weekend placing in both Greco and freestyle. On the Greco side, Drew was the champion of his bracket winning four of his matches by technical fall. Drew was also able to place in the Freestyle tournament finishing 6th behind his brother. Drew’s losses came at the hands of #7 106 Ben Freeman and #1 113 (#3 pound-for-pound) Spencer Lee. In the end it was a great showing by the freshman.

Had one of the most exciting weekends as he won his freestyle national title to represent the USA in Slovakia this summer. His loss to Shie (on criteria) put his chances at the finals in serious risk, but in the end Happel got his opportunity to win a Cadet national title and made the most of it.
