Former Iowa State signee, Jarod Verkleeren has released a new list of schools of interest following the school releasing him from scholarship. Seven schools find themselves in Verkleeren’s consideration, with Iowa State still in the running to retain the class of 2017 #13 overall recruit. A Cadet freestyle World Champion and member of the prestigious Young Guns Wrestling Club, the Pennsylvania standout also finds himself at #1 in the 145-pound rankings.

In February, when Iowa State made the decision to hire Kevin Dresser mid-season, one of the goals for the new head Cyclone was to hopefully retain some of the recruiting class that Kevin Jackson had built. All told four wrestlers requested their release from Iowa State with Dresser retaining Austin Gomez, wrestlers Jake Allar and Ethan Smith each landing at new colleges, and Verkleeren being the fourth.

The reigning NCAA champions Penn State also find themselves on Verkleeren’s list, along with fellow Big Ten schools Minnesota and Ohio State, which is where his fellow former Iowa State signees Allar and Smith ended up committing to respectively. ACC schools North Carolina State and Virginia also appear on Verkleeren’s list, with the latter school containing several current and future Young Guns on the roster. Missouri then rounds out the list.
