Four-time Iowa State Champion Jake Marlin, a celebrated wrestler from Creston with an impressive high school record of 204-6 and 147 career pins, is making his return to wrestling as a youth coach. Marlin’s new endeavor, Team Marlin Wrestling Club, aims to provide high-quality training for young wrestlers, focusing particularly on high school athletes in both the fall and spring seasons.

Youth Season and High School Development in Spring Freestyle/Greco Club

The club offers year-round training opportunities, with fall youth practices in Norwalk and Creston starting November 4th. This is followed by an advanced Freestyle/Greco season in the spring, where high school-aged wrestlers take center stage. During this season, Marlin, alongside fellow decorated wrestler Logan Molina, will offer a three-day weekly training program designed to elevate high school wrestlers’ skills through focused, technique-driven sessions.

Specialized Training Days for High School Athletes in Freestyle Season

For high school athletes, the spring Freestyle/Greco club includes unique themed training days:

  1. International Wrestling Day: High school athletes will train with Reineri Andreu Ortega, a Cyclone Regional Training Center athlete and 2-time U23 World Champion, offering an incredible opportunity to learn international techniques from one of the world’s top wrestlers.
  2. Women’s Wrestling Day: For female wrestlers, Simpson College Assistant Coach Emma Cochran will lead an all-girls day, tailored to empower and develop high school-aged wrestlers in freestyle techniques.
  3. Guest Clinician Day: Every other week, high school wrestlers will benefit from guest clinicians such as National Champion Kyven Gadson and 4-time All-American Willie Miklus, offering them elite guidance as they prepare for competitive seasons.

Marlin’s Vision: High-Level Training for Aspiring High School Wrestlers

Marlin’s vision is to create an inclusive, high-energy training environment that draws high school athletes from across Central Iowa. “My goal is to build a room where high school wrestlers want to train every day, a place that focuses on technique with low pressure and high fun. I want Team Marlin to be where the best young athletes come to sharpen their skills and grow together,” Marlin says.

With this unique focus on high school development and elite coaching, Team Marlin Wrestling Club is poised to become a premier destination for Iowa’s young wrestlers looking to take their performance to the next level.
