PD3 makes World Team at 86 kg

Former Iowa State All-American Pat Downey has made his first World Team as David Taylor announced tonight on social media that he would not be participating in Final X. The 2018 World Champion Taylor sustained a knee injury to Drew Foster at Beat the Streets earlier this month.

Downey earns his spot by winning both the US Open and the World Team Trials. “Downey, shoot your shot. Moments like these don’t get gifted to you often.” Taylor said in his online post regarding his news.

Below is the social medial post by Taylor.

Downey has since left Iowa and moved out to New Jersey where he has joined the New Jersey Regional Training Center. One of the club’s main coaches, Joe Dubuque, confirmed his athlete has indeed made the World Team.

Update: Downey also added his thoughts on making the team on his personal account.
