Jay Schwarm opened things up with a first period fall over Greg Capstick. Jack Skudlarczyk followed up with solid 9-4 win over SDSU backup Spencer Huber. #6 Josh Alber won in what was the first of three tech falls for the Panthers, 22-7 over Aric Williams.

In what was the featured match of the evening, Johnston High School alumnus Henry Pohlmeyer took a 1-0 lead into the third period against #9 Max Thomsen. Pohlmeyer was hit for locked hands in the period, tying the match at 1. But with Pohlmeyer on top Thomsen was unable to escape, and Pohlmeyer won the match 2-1 on a riding time point.

At 165 and 174 pounds Bryce Steiert and Taylor Lujan both earned tech falls, with Lujan edging out his lighter teammate by one point. Steiert won 18-2 and Lujan won 19-2.

At 197 Tyrell Gordon was in a hard-fought match, taking Martin Mueller to overtime before giving up a takedown in sudden victory. Gordon fought out of a couple of deep shots from Mueller but was ultimately unable to score any offensive points.

And at heavyweight Izaak Shedenhelm won his first match at his new wight, scoring a takedown in the second and earning an escape against the bigger Blake Wolters in the third.

The Panthers head to Nebraska tomorrow night for a dual with the Cornhuskers. Check out our preview on that dual and we’ll be back with results tomorrow.
