Northern Iowa has added a third verbal commitment to their 2019 recruiting class, landing the talents of Kyle Golhoffer out of Woodland, Georgia. Ranked as #75 in The Open Mat’s most recent release of 2019 class rankings, Golhoffer becomes the third top 100 commitment for UNI in this class. Golhoffer also rates as the #17 wrestler at 126 pounds according to TOM.

“I feel like UNI has everything I want.” Golhoffer told IAwrestle, “I’ve known (coach Lee) Roper ever since I was a little kid. I’ve always loved wrestling for him and having as a coach.”

The connection with coach Roper extends to his days prior to joining UNI where he was the co-founder of the Compound Wrestling Facilities in McDonough, Georgia. That connection to Georgia has served the Panthers well with Compound Wrestling alums Joey Lazor and Jake Hodges already gone through the program, and current starter Taylor Lujan entering his junior year of eligibility.

Golhoffer also told UNI that he also felt a strong connection with head coach Doug Schwab, who he said really fostered a home feeling and mentality of personal growth on and off the mat.

“I really like Schwab and how he talks about keeping your life prioritized and paying attention to the little details that you might not think are important. It reminds me a lot of ow my dad raised my sister and I. The whole coaching staff seem like they want to make sure we grow as people in wrestling an all other aspects of life.”

Projecting at 125 pounds, Golhoffer will join a recruiting class that also features #36 Parker Keckeisen and #85 Lance Runyon. This will also significantly boost the lightweight depth. UNI’s current roster lists seven wrestlers as an option at 125 pounds, though a few project to outgrow the weight before Golhoffer arrives in Cedar Falls.
