Two years ago, four-time Washington state place winner and Fargo cadet freestyle national champion Trey Meyer thought that he would be coming to Iowa to wrestle for Iowa State University as part of there highly ranked 2016 recruiting class. Things didn’t quite work out the way he had originally planned and instead Meyer ended up at North Idaho Junior College.
Two years later, Meyer will be coming to central Iowa after all to finish his college career at NAIA powerhouse Grand View University.
“Their wrestling team is the best. They have the best facilities, a great school, great family, and a great city.” Meyer told IAwrestle. “I knew that this was going to be the best spot for me and I already have great friends on the team. I know that I’m going to strive to be the best here.”
Meyer chose Grand View over Colorado State-Pueblo, Menlo College and Missouri Valley. He plans on wrestling at 165 pounds and will look to replace graduating senior and national champion Grant Henderson.
Meyer comes to Grand View with a redshirt still available and two years of eligibility to compete.
Meyer joins in state recruits Matt Robertson (Davenport Assumption), Shea Ruffridge (Pocahontas Area), Tanner Abbas (Clarion-Goldfield-Dows), Sam Loyd (New London), Ben Lee (Ballard), Nathan Haynes (Missouri Valley), and Killyan Green (Ankeny) in the 2018 recruiting class.
