Gadson wins gold on final day of Henri Deglane Challenge in France

NICE, France – All six U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers competing on Saturday at the Henri Deglane Challenge won medals, led by gold medalists Tyler Graff (Blacksburg, Va./Titan Mercury WC/Southeast RTC) at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. and Kyven Gadson (Ames, Iowa/Sunkist Kids/Cyclone WC) at 97 kg/213 lbs.

Graff went 4-0 in a five-athlete round robin, winning all four of his matches by technical fall and outscoring his opponents by a combined 40-0. The USA swept the medals at 57 kg, with the silver medal going to Edward Klimara and the bronze medal going to Frank Perrelli. Klimara edged Perrelli, 7-5 to win the silver medal.

Gadson won a four-athlete round robin, winning all three of his matches by technical fall and outscoring his opponents by a combined 31-0. Winning the silver at the weight class was American Micah Burak, who finished the day with a 2-1 record, with his only loss to Gadson.

Claiming the other silver medal for the USA was Nazar Kulchytskyy (Madison, Wis.(/Titan Mercury WC) at 74 kg/163 lbs. Kulchytskyy won his first match by technical fall over Salvatore Diana of Italy, 10-0 but was beaten in the finals by Johnny Bur of France, 4-2.

Over the two day event, the USA won eight medals, with two other individual champions on Friday, Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley WC) at 125 kg/275 lbs. and Tim McCall (Raleigh, N.C./Titan Mercury WC/Wolfpack RTC) at 86 kg/189 lbs.

The USA won the team title at the Deglane Challenge in men’s freestyle with 45 points, ahead of second place Spain with 34 points and third place France with 30 points.
