After picking up his second state title and a big win at the War at West Gym, New Hampton Junior Michael Millage caught up with us to talk about what his future holds.

IAwrestle: After falling in a tight match in last years state finals you were able to get back on top of the podium this year defeating former state champ Drew West. What did it mean to you to get that 2nd state title?

Michael Millage: It feels even better than the first one. Being in the finals with a couple teammates was a lot of fun and feeling the support from the community, the team, my coaches, and my family was by far the greatest thing to me.

How tough was it to have to sit and not compete first semester due to the transfer rule in Iowa?

It was pretty tough. I had to just stay positive and help my team achieve their goals throughout the first half of the season! It was nice to strictly focus on techniques and better myself as a wrestler!

The New Hampton team seems like a very tight knit group. How special was it to be able to capture a team title at state duals this year and a team second place at traditional state?

It felt great. The group of guys I got to compete alongside with are just as driven and motivated to reach their goals as I am. I felt like our team was always motivated and we always worked hard, but also had fun while doing so. It was great to be apart of something special like that this year!

What are your plans for wrestling this offseason and summer?

I plan on starting my offseason with Virginia Beach and ending it at Fargo. I’m excited to start my training phases for the summer with Coach Cruse Aarhrus. I’ve got so much to learn and can’t wait to get after it!

Do you have a list of colleges that you are considering at this point?

NC State, Iowa, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, UNI, and Minnesota.
