What more can be said about the talent that Cullan Schriever and Cade DeVos have for their age group? Well, how about for starters we talk about how phenomenal the pair was for Team Iowa last week at the Schoolboy National Duals, where Iowa took 18th in Greco-Roman and 13th in freestyle.
Schriever picked up dual honors for going undefeated in both styles for a perfect 16-0 on the weekend. The Mason City wrestler, who trains at the Sebolt Wrestling Academy, is currently ranked #12 in the nation among middle school wrestlers according to Flowrestling.
His club coach TJ Sebolt had a few thoughts on his weekend, “He dominated both styles start to finish. He ended up with 12 five point throws which is unbelievable in Greco. He went 16-0, and 15 of those ended in technical falls. His goal is to win the National Triple Crown for the second straight year this summer in just a few weeks.”
When I asked if he was surprised at how dominant one of his athletes was he responded, “I was not surprised at all to see him go 16-0. With him I know how hard he works and these kind of performances have become an expectation! As long as he keeps doing his job and stays coachable, I will do everything in my power to get him ready, and constantly remind him to be hungry and never be content. He will achieve whatever he sets his mind to.”
“We are always finding ways to get better even when he dominates the way he has been. There are always things you can do better, and there are always things we can tweak both technically and mentally.”
DeVos was almost equally impressive going 15-1 on the weekend, with his only loss coming in Greco-Roman. Three of his wins came by technical fall in his freestyle award winning performance, and he won 16-15 to finish of his tournament. DeVos is ranked #36 by Flowrestling among middle school wrestlers.
DeVos club coach Pablo Ubasa was also kind enough to comment on his wrestlers performance, “I liked the way he competed and put himself in position to score in all of his matches! He gave himself a chance to win!”
