The U.S. Freestyle World Cup team was announced this week and on the roster of eight wrestlers, three of them competed at an Iowa universtiy. The World Cup will take place in Inglewood, California on April 11-12th.
For the University of Iowa, World Team members Tony Ramos (57 kg) and Brent Metcalf (65 kg) have been confirmed their commitment to the event. Ramos is yet to complete a full year competing in freestyle full-time, and has already won gold medals at the Canada Cup and Paris Grand Prix to begin his career. Metcalf is a three-time representive for the U.S. and this past January he finished silver at the Yarygin Grand Prix and bronze at the Paris Grand Prix.
“It going to be a fun event to compete at.” Ramos said, “There will be world class wrestling and it makes it even better that I get to wrestle on U.S. Soil in front of a big fan base.”
Olympic gold medalist Jake Varner will also be representing Team USA at 97 kg.
It also appears that U.S. National Team wrestler Matt McDonough will be making the trip to California as well, with Brent Metcalf tweeting this out last night:
