As we discussed this Monday, Iowa had two teams out in Oklahoma competing in the Junior National Duals. Iowa had a team finish 6th in the Gold/Silver pool and 1st in the Red/Blue pool, and now some of those wrestlers on those squads are getting honored for their performances.

Bryce West was an impressive 7-0 on the weekend, including one win over a former nationally ranked Joey Prata out of Virginia. Bryce West returns back to the Flo rankings after his weekend at #19. Remember that Bryce’s brother Drew is representing the USA in Slovakia for Cadet nationals on the Greco team, and could still use your support. As mentioned in the linked interview, Bryce plans to compete at Fargo later this month.

The next Iowan honored is Mitch Bowman at 182 who was 5-0 on the weekend for the team that finished 6th in the Gold/Silver pool. Bowman had wins over currently ranked #15 at 182 and #19 at 195, and appears to be a very good under the radar recruit for Tom Brands and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Bowman provided a ton of value for the Blue squad, as he was able to wrestle matches at both 182 and 195.

Finally, Jake Marnin of Southeast Polk was also honored with the all tournament team selection at Heavyweight. Being the #2 ranked heavyweight Marnin didn’t have any surprising victories, but that is what you come to expect from guys at the top of a weight class. Marnin was 7-0 for the Blue Team in Oklahoma.

  • Off topic note: if you haven’t seen the teaser trailer for Foxcatcher, watch it. It looks good.
