Intermat released an updated High School rankings today and there were quite a few Iowans who made the cut. Most noticeably missing from the list (Intermat only lists the top 20 at each weight) was Lisbon’s Carter Happel, who was ranked 20th at 132 back in February.

Alijah Jeffery is the first Iowa prep to show up in the rankings, and he finishes the season ranked #8 at 120. The Linn-Mar prep will continue his wrestling career at the University of Northern Illinois next year. Freddy Stoker is the #2 at 132 behind Zahid Valencia. The Bettendorf junior is still undecided where he would like to continue his wrestling career. Stoker’s teammate from that Bettendorf team, Logan Ryan is #8 at 138. Logan will be joining his brother this fall as he will compete for the University of Iowa. Coming of a national title in Virginia, Union’s Max Thomsen is #17 at 138. Thomsen is still undecided going into his senior year, although his brother Logan wrestles for the University of Iowa. Junior Bryce Steiert of Waverly Shell Rock checks in at #19 at 145. Steiert is also undecided in his college choice at this point. Mitch Bowman of North Scott is #19 at 182, and will continue his career at Iowa. At 195 Marcus Harrington is ranked #6. Harrington also won a title in Virginia by beating the #19 ranked Tristain Sponseller 7-5 in the finals.

ISU’s Nathan Boston is #3 at 120. The Kentucky native recently competed for Team USA in the Dapper Dan classic (an event for the nations high profile seniors) against Team Pennsylvania. Boston loss 9-0 to #6 ranked Dalton Macri at the classic. Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer of New York is the #8 at 145. Rodriguez-Spencer joined fellow recruit Marcus Harrington in winning a title in Virginia with a 8-6 OT victory over #9 Niko Villarreal. Colton DiBlasi is #17 at 152 and Maryland’s Logan Breitenbach is #16 at 160 and rounds out the Cyclone’s recruiting class.

UNI’s has two recruits on the list Josh Alber is #3 at 132 and Adarios Jones #9 at Heavyweight. You can check out what Head coach Doug Schwab had to say about these two joining his program here.

Iowa recruit Seth Gross is ranked #6 at 138. Gross will be competing at the FILA junior freestyle tournament this week at 145. Tagen Lambotte of Kansas checks in at #19 at 152. Lambotte finished 6th at the folkstyle national tournament in Cedar Falls this month. New York’s Burke Paddock is #20 at 170. Paddock finished 3rd at 160 in Virginia at Senior Nationals. Finally Heavyweight Sam Stoll is ranked #3. Stoll has entered the Las Vegas Open in the senior tournament in the Greco division.

Checking in on the team rankings Bettendorf is ranked just ahead of another Iowa school at #21 (two ranked wrestlers). That other Iowa school is #22 Southeast Polk (no top 20 wrestlers) to give the state of Iowa two top 25 teams. The final ranked team for Iowa is #34 Waverly-Shell Rock (one ranked).
