Mount Vernon’s Triston Wirfs continues to win in multple sports. Wirfs won the 2A 285 pound Iowa High School State title this past February and has added another Drake Relays title to his resume. The future Iowa Hawkeye offensive lineman threw 66’3.25, good enough to hold the top spot over three competitors throwing over 60′ (First time in history) and for the second all-time best in state history. Not impressed? The throw also landed him sixth in the country.
Among the competitors in shot put was Iowa City Regina’s two-time 1A 285 pound state champion, Jared Brinkmann. Brinkman led Wirfs heading into his last throw with a 65’2.25.
“I didn’t know it was that far until I saw it land then I knew it was big, and tommorow for disc I just gotta come out and compete like everyone else and have a good morning.” said Wirfs.
Wirfs will also be competing in discus this morning at 9 A.M. and will look to improve on his record setting throw earlier this month of 195′-2, which was the fifth-longest in state history. We will keep you updated this morning wether or not the three sport star claims another Drake Relays title.
“Wrestling 100% helps with track and football, it helps with my balance and awareness among many other skills.”
