Forest City–The William Penn wrestling team won seven matches Wednesday, including four by fall, en route to a 38-9 dual meet victory over Waldorf.
The Statesmen (1-0) dominated the quick event (only two matches went the distance), beginning with a pin in 1:24 by John Altieri (So., Warwick, R.I., Sociology) over Daniel Lin at 125 pounds.
The visitors dropped the next two weight classes to fall behind 9-6 before 149-pounder Brad Watson (Sr., Rolla, Mo., Physical Education) got them back on track with a 19-3 technical fall over Dustin Samudio.
Logan Loftus (Jr., Marengo, Iowa, Industrial Technology) then won by fall over Dario Gamino at 157, while Austinn Goin (So., Belton, Mo., Exercise Science) joined Watson in the tech fall club, claiming a 20-2 triumph at 165 pounds.
Jeremy Walters (Sr., University Park, Ill., Exercise Science) needed just 2:20 to have the mat slapped for a pin over Dominick Fadden at 174 pounds. Neither side had a 184-pound grappler in competition and then the evening concluded with 197-pounder Dane Jones (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa) rolling past Joel Deere for a 12-3 major decision, while heavyweight Matthew Cuthbert (So., Yucaipa, Calif., Sociology) flattened and pinned Dallas Knoop in a time of 4:56.
