Henry Pohlmeyer is nationally ranked in the 120 pound weight class and considered one of the top pound for pound senior wrestlers in Iowa (InterMat).

Projected at 125 or 133 for college, Pohlmeyer is a two-time Iowa high school place winner, including a State title as a sophomore at 106 (37-5 season record).  He was a runner-up his Junior season at 113 (39-2 season record).  He owns a 100-25 high school career record entering his senior year in high school.

Pohlmeyer is a 2014 USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals champion.  He is a four-time Greco and freestyle State champ along with being an All-American at Fargo.

Doctor of Pharmacy is what Henry plans to study at South Dakota State University.

We were able to sit down with Henry last night to discuss his commitment to SDSU.

What other schools were you looking at before you landed on SDSU?

Iowa, North Dakota State, Pittsburgh and Southern Illinois Edwardsville

What ultimately led you to SDSU?

I have attended their camps for many years and that is where the relationship started. What ultimately sold me though was the pharmacy school. They have a 100% pass rate on their pharmacy test. Needless to say I felt very comfortable with that statistic.

What are your goals now that this decision is out-of-the-way?

My goal is to win another title and go undefeated.

Do you feel like this is the season Johnston gets to the state duals?

We started together young with fresh talent and have built it up from there. We have a lot of freshman who may step into the lineup that can take us to the state duals.

How important have your partners been to you in your development?

The partners around me at Johnston and at various clubs have been a BIG reason for my success.

What weight do you plan on being at this year?

The plan is to go 126 so we can get both Ethan and Alec Kziasek into the lineup. 126 pounds is also where I feel the most comfortable for another state championship.

Is there any clubs that you would like to thank for your wrestling success?

Porcelli, Ubassa, Wrestling Academy, Johnston Wrestling Club and the Viking Wrestling Club has had the most influence on me with learning to cut weight and great work out partners at Grand View University.

I would like to thank all of my coaches over the last 13 years and especially my parents for supplying me the means to travel to tournaments and multiple practices.
