The Freak Show is one the fastest growing wrestling events in the country. Unfortunately this tournament runs the same weekend as the Super 32 so we can’t get the best wrestlers under one roof. The High School Elite Division had some of the best wrestlers in the country registered. A few of those wrestlers were from Iowa. Nick Williams suffered a tough first round loss to Juaquin Olivas from Arizona. Once you get on the back side of every tournament it is hard to recover. He ended up winning two more matches before getting knocked out by David Clancy by dec 7-5.
Two other Iowa natives had great tournaments. Carter Happel finished 2nd place losing to Israel Saavedra. Saavedra, a junior, is a 2x California State Champ ranked seventh by Flo at 126lbs.
A contender for our wrestler of the week award is Fredy Stroker. Stroker decided to wrestle the Freak Show on Wednesday of last week so he didn’t have much time to cut weight for the event. Wrestling up a weight class didn’t seem to slow him down winning a title at the Freak Show. One match to watch though was his semi-finals match against Blake Monty (AZ).
