Going “OVERTIME” with Dayton Racer is a lot easier over the phone than on the mat. The state champ from nationally ranked Apple Valley will be wrestling for Bettendorf this upcoming season. Bettendorf is the returning 3A State Champions and look to repeat with the addition of Racer. Just to name a few in their lineup – (Wagner, Schwarm, Gallagher, Glynn Stroker, Racer, Woodard and Sass)

Every year there seems to be a big name transfer to some of these power schools. This move for the Racer family is not just about being a part of a top wrestling school. “I’ve always planned on living in Iowa. My dad got a new job in Iowa and it is a great fit for my family.”

This is also a good indicator to where Racer might land next year. “This move will bring me closer to the college I plan on attending.” He plans announcing his college choice before wrestling starts this season and his top schools are Iowa, Cornell and Missouri. He was in black and gold at Apple Valley and will be in black and gold at Bettendorf. It seems fitting he would be in black and gold at Iowa.

As stated above Racer will fit into the lineup between Stroker and Woodard. Death row for many 3A schools. The plan is for him to go 160lbs this year and then go down to 157lbs for college. Wrestling 157lbs isn’t the only thing on his mind though. His biggest goal in college is to graduate with a medical degree and of course a few national titles.

After talking with Dayton and his dad I believe this move has been in the works for a while and truly is the best decision for his family. There were a lot of negative things happening up in Minnesota towards his family and Bettendorf has obviously opened up their arms. He knows what wrestling means to this state. “I am excited to show my talent to the best fans in wrestling!”

Welcome to IOWA

(P.S. Racer might have the weirdest entrance song in Iowa wrestling history if he wrestles at Carver. Check out his song of choice lol)

  1. […] The Associated Wrestling Press released new class of 2015 rankings  on Monday with results from Fargo factored in. It should come as no surprise that several Iowans made the list, including two whom we recently interviewed in Fredy Stroker and Dayton Racer. […]
