I recently had a chance to catch up with the up and coming Anthony Sherry, who just put himself firmly on the national map with a great tournament in Fargo. Wrestling older kids in the Cadet division, many of them being some of the best in the nation and already a year or two into high school, Anthony took 2nd in the nation in Greco Roman and 6th in Freestyle. Needless to say, expectations for Anthony are high going into his freshman season of high school.

I know that you are going to be a freshman in high school next year. Do you know what high school you will be attending?

I will be attending Glenwood Community High School.

What weight do you plan on wrestling this year?

I plan to wrestle 152.

What goals do you have for your wrestling career? This could be in high school, college, or beyond…

I would like to be an Olympic champ.

What were you expecting going into a Fargo wrestling older kids from all over the country?

I didn’t really think much of it. I’m used to wrestling older kids my whole life so it wasn’t much different than what I’m used to, so I just went out and wrestled.

Who are your biggest influences in wrestling and what wrestlers do you like to watch compete?

My biggest influences would be my parents and my coaches who push me to be the best. I like to watch David Taylor wrestle [in] college and his freestyle career [because] it’s different and interesting to watch.

Is there a certain college program that you cheer for? What is your dream school if you could pick any to wrestle for after high school?

I haven’t really thought much into my future for wrestling and I wouldn’t exactly pick a school, but I do cheer for Iowa.

When not cutting weight what is your favorite thing to eat?

I don’t cut weight very often actually, so I’m not exactly use to it, but after Fargo I realized I really enjoy Taco Bell and almost anything from there.
