Last year IAwrestle introduced the Night of Conflict event held inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The event featured 16 matches in which some of the best talent the state of Iowa high school wrestling had to offer went toe-to-toe with others from around the country. This year we are shaking things up! We announced that Keaton Geerts would be facing Conflict alum Jason Renteria earlier in the week and now we have set our biggest match, the heavyweights.
Once again we will have a new face from Iowa making his Night of Conflict debut in Aaron Costello of Western Dubuque. A two-time state qualifier at heavyweight, Costello made his biggest mark on the state when he pinned his way to the 3A semifinals. His only loss was to Gannon Gremmel in the finals (who would later go on to win a high school national title), and he also earned All-American Greco honors (6th) at Fargo.
His opponent will be Tennessee native Sammy Evans where he is a three time state champion for Alcoa High School. Committed to the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Evans is ranked #99 overall in the class of 2017 and should pose a tough matchup for the rising Costello.
Flowrestling ranks Evans #13 at 285.
