IAwrestle’s Night of Conflict got its start nearly 10 years ago on October 15th, 2015. The first ever event took place in the historic Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Over the next nine years we took the event to Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Des Moines, and Sioux City. As we approach the 10 year anniversary of the event we will be bringing it back to Iowa City at the Courtyard Iowa City University Heights.
In our first ever event we saw Jarrett Degen of Montana take on Lisbon’s Carter Happel. Degen would go on to become an All-American under Kevin Dresser at Iowa State, and Happel went on to wrestle at the University of Iowa.
In that first event 29 of the 30 men’s wrestler wrestled on a Division I roster at some point in their careers. As mentioned Degen achieved All-American status, as did Gannon Gremmel, Kaleb Young, Max Murin, and Alex Marinelli.
That group – as well as the wrestlers that proceeded that group – went on to have highly successful college career at all levels of college wrestling. Many qualified for the NCAA tournament, won conference titles, NAIA and Division III titles.
Throughout the years IAwrestle’s Night of Conflict has tallied 197 matches, and after our 11th event tonight we will have seen 217 contested matchups at Night of Conflict.
The 100th match winner belongs to SBL’s Ty Koedam, who won a Western Iowa battle over Cam Clark of West Sioux.
