At 145 pounds on Saturday Josh Gerke upset not one, but two ranked wrestlers on his way to being crowned champion. Gerke won his opening match 13-3 over Waterloo East’s Jeremiah Jordan before going on to face #9 Johnny Clymer from Linn-Mar. Gerke would hold on for the win in the semifinal 4-2 and face #4 Alex Ward from Dubuque Hempstead in the final. Gerke would score off of a good scramble in the second period and then add another takedown in the third to finish off the Mustang, 5-2.
