Changes happening within the Eastern Iowa Wrestling Club (EIWC) and NCAA Champion Matt McDonough takes on a new role in wrestling
If you want to wrestle in two of the finest facilities in the nation and be coached by some of the best coaches and athletes in the sport of wrestling the EIWC is continuing to make that a possibility with a new partnership.
- The historic Carver Hawkeye arena and the brand new state of the art athletics facility at Coe College will be the host sites for the Eastern Iowa Wrestling Club.
- The Coe College wrestling facility boasts 7,000 square feet of open mat space or an equivalent of more than 4 mat areas, a separate area for cardio equipment and is adjacent to a new strength room fitness center, the swimming pool, indoor tennis, racquetball, squash courts, climbing wall, fitness center saunas and much more and is all available for the families to use during practice. Special memberships will be offered at the clinic.
- The historic Carver Hawkeye Arena and the University of Iowa Wrestling Room home to one of the finest wrestling programs in the nation will continue to serve as the other location for the club workouts.
- Practices will be held on Sunday’s, Monday’s, Tuesday’s, and Thursday’s starting after September 5, 2017.
- There will be an open house on Saturday, August 5th at Coe College from 1:00pm-3:00pm where specific information will be distributed and sign-ups will be available.
- This day will include a free clinic with the EIWC coaches and members from the Hawkeye Wrestling Club that are training and competing to represent our country in World and Olympic Championships.
- There will be tours of the brand new facility at Coe College and bring your workout clothes, because while your athletes are training at the clinic, everyone is invited to use the new state of the art fitness facility, cardio bridge, swimming pool, racquet ball or squash courts and much more.
- Members of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club will be guest clinicians throughout the year.
The New Director of the Eastern Iowa Wrestling Club is:
- Matt McDonough, while Terry Brands, Associate Head Coach at the University of Iowa and founder of the Eastern Iowa Wrestling Club will still assist on occasion, National Champion Matt McDonough is excited to expand his role and to start giving back to the local area and continue the development of the Eastern Iowa Wrestling Club into one of the finest clubs in the nation as a full-time Program Director. Matt stated: “It is my goal to have each of our athletes obtain their true potential both on and off the mat through their participation in our program. It is my goal to compete locally, regionally and nationally with our athletes and I look forward to taking teams to the toughest tournaments in the country.”

- Finished his career with a 122-9 mark and the 11th best winning percentage in school history.
