Fareway Stores, Inc. and IAwrestle present the Dan Gable Ms. and Mr. Wrestler of the Year Awards in coordination with the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (IWCOA).
Please note, the fan vote winners will count as ONE vote towards the IWCOA’s committee votes in EACH round. (For example: Wrestler A received enough fan votes to place second in the poll but that does not guarantee them to move on to the next round. IWCOA has selected 12 coaches and officials to serve on the committee. The fan vote is the 13th vote.)
This round of voting will take place from January 16-29 to determine the three finalists which will be announced on January 30. The Ms. Wrestler of the Year fan vote for overall winner will be open from January 30 to February 6. The Mr. Wrestler vote for overall winner will be open from January 30 to February 20.
The two runner-up student athletes in each class will each receive finalist award plaques. A duplicate Wrestler of the Year trophy and duplicate Wrestler of the Year runner-up plaques will be provided to each high school where finalists attend, for permanent placement in the high school trophy case.
A luncheon awards banquet will take place at the Fareway Conference Center in Boone, Iowa on Wednesday, March 1 at noon. Dan Gable and Mark Ironside will be our special guests handing out awards. Media is encouraged to attend.

A bit disillusioned & disgusted with Mr & Mrs Dan Gable Wrestler of the Year, sponsored by Fareway. I have been doing this for a couple years, voting daily for my favorite wrestler(s). This year I had two I voted for, one in 2A and one in 1A.
In the preliminary voting my 1A wrestler was in 2nd place, only down by 2 points. He is listed as #1 in the state for his class. But when the finalist voting round came up he wasn’t listed. Then I read the rules:

So basically my vote really doesn’t count…the finalists are determined by who the committee decides. So why am I bothering to vote…next year count me out.
