Another year logged for Tom Brands and this year he adds an impressive six All-Americans honors to his coaching resume, including four new faces. Sophomores Lee and Marinelli earned their second All-American honor, with Lee’s title being Brands’ 12th national title. He’s also the fourth mulit-NCAA champion Brands has coached.

The four wrestlers earning All-American honors for the first time were Austin DeSanto, Pat Lugo, Kaleb Young, and Jacob Warner. All four wrestlers will return for the 2019-20 season, and all but Lugo have at least two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Taking a look at the last five years we see that Iowa has obviously been a force to be reckoned with at 125 pounds, as Gilman and Lee have combined for top four finishes five years running. The real surprise may be that Iowa’s longest active All-American streak is an even tie between 125 and 149 pounds as Lugo helped extend a now five year run.
