Iowa Fargo Greco-Roman Cadet Results Session III

Today’s session determined the fate of five other Cadet wrestlers, as they each needed just one win to reach Fargo All-American status. The Iowa boys did just that as, four of them (Nathan Lendt, Ryan Leisure, Billy Higgins, and Tristan Johnson) guaranteed themselves 8th place, with Alex Thomsen being the lone loss in the round of 12.

Drew West (106) will be wrestling for his second Cadet Greco-Roman National title this summer (he won one in Akron earlier) after winning his fifth match by either fall or technical fall. He will be joined in the finals by his brother Bryce (113) and Anthony Sherry (152). Bryce has also yet to go the distance in a match, where as Anthony has had two close matches to reach his final. Drew West’s finals opponent will be Ian Timmin, who pinned Nathan Lendt back in round 3 of their bracket.

On the back side, Lendt (106) went 1-1 and will be wrestling for 7th, along with Higgins, and Johnson. Leisure was the only Cadet on the back side to avoid the 7th place match and he needed to notch his would-be 8th victory (not counting byes) over Josh McClure to reach the finals of the consolation bracket. If you remember from yesterday, McClure was the wrestler who knocked Leisure out of the championship side, so some much needed vengeance was needed. And boy was it sweet. Leisure was able to notch a tech fall of his own in 2:29, blanking McClure in the process of his 12-0 victory. Leisure will wrestle for 3rd later.
